22 June 2005

Using $8 million from the Capital Fund originally created in 1991 from the proceeds of the sale of donated American soybean meal under the Food for Progress program, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, working closely with Polish cooperative banks, has come up with an innovative new system to make funds available for banks to upgrade their information technology systems, provide advanced training to their staff, and, in some cases, enhance their capitalization.

On June 23, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture will commemorate the signing of the first agreement with a regional bank to extend assistance from the Fund under its new procedures.

The Capital Fund was intended to create an active, independent agricultural cooperative banking sector in Poland.
