Eric A. Wenberg

Biography

Eric Wenberg serves as Agricultural Counselor in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Agricultural Affairs at the American Embassy in Warsaw, arriving in September 2007.  As well, he has regional responsibilities for Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.  From 2004-2007, Mr. Wenberg was Director of USDA’s Agricultural Trade Offices in Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Vladivostok.  Previously, Mr. Wenberg was Deputy Director of USDA’s global crop production forecasting division, and an agricultural economist in various offices in the Foreign Agricultural Service in Washington, DC.  Mr. Wenberg also served earlier in Moscow at the American Embassy, as an agricultural attaché from 1994 to 1997.


Mr. Wenberg has received numerous USDA achievement awards including for management and leadership, analysis related to the development of agriculture in Russia, China and Brazil, and for pioneering the use of internet computer databases for global trade and production statistics.   Mr. Wenberg, a career member of the U.S. foreign service, served on the American Foreign Service Association’s Board of Directors from 2000-2003 in Washington, DC.  Mr. Wenberg joined USDA in 1990 after graduating with a Masters of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, and a Bachelors Degree in International Relations, also from the University of Wyoming.

Mr. Wenberg represents his family’s fourth generation involved with U.S. agriculture, and owns with other family members the Diamond X farm in western North Dakota.
