Who is an alumnus(a)?

You are an alumnus(a) of a USG – sponsored program if you have participated in at least one of the following exchange programs:

  • Fulbright Exchange Program
  • International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP)
  • Voluntary Visitor Program
  • Lane Kirkland Program

Website for Alumni

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (ECA) invites alumni of all U.S. exchange programs to join State Alumni, the online community by and for alumni. Launched in April 2001, the
website is a way for alumni to network and stay in touch with each other. The site also offers alumni a calendar of events, grant opportunities, and job postings. The site now includes a moderated Question and Answer feature
with monthly guest speakers. Registered users can also search the database of State Alumni community members to find colleagues, friends, and alumni with similar interests. Alumni are also given the option of posting their own news, events, or links. To register, please click on the link below or visit https://alumni.state.gov.

The "State Alumni – Your Global Community" website has been created by the Department of State to serve all USG-sponsored alumni worldwide.

Features include:

  • Posting of Alumni Resumes
  • Job and Grant Opportunities
  • Free Journal Database with over 10,000 journals
  • Discussion Forums
  • Online Interviews with interesting people (Q&A live)
  • Calendar of Events
  • Alumni News
  • Opportunity for alumni to publish articles
  • Alumni search tool
  • Photo Gallery

The emphasis in State Alumni is on user-created content, so members are encouraged to provide calendar listings, job announcements, news, photos, and grant opportunities to the webmaster for posting. We also welcome feedback from users in order to continuously improve the site.
