President Bush greets President Kwaśniewski at the White House, October 12, 2005

President Bush hosted Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski at the White House for a farewell meeting and lunch on October 12, 2005. President Bush noted that President Kwaśniewski “helped to advance the cause of peace by advancing the cause of freedom. He has served as a mentor for new democracies in the neighborhood. He has proven that you can be a friend to the United States and a loyal member of the EU at the same time.” President Kwaśniewski said that, “Together we are building peace and stability in different parts of the world. We are fighting together against terrorism. We are fulfilling our task with joy and satisfaction, and we do it effectively. And together we are bringing more peace and more democracy to the world.”

During his visit to Washington, President Kwaśniewski also hosted a dinner at Blair House, the official guest house of the President of the United States on October 11. President Kwaśniewski will conclude his second term as President this December. Poland remains among America’s closest friends and allies. Under President Kwaśniewski’s leadership, Poland has emerged as a leading partner in the cause of freedom working with the United States to support reform in Ukraine, promote democracy in Belarus, strengthen transatlantic relations, and bring liberty to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan.
