Non-Immigrant Visas

How to apply for a visa

Interviews for visas are scheduled by appointment only, except for individuals listed below under Visa applicants who do not have to come into the Embassy in person. Applicants for tourist visas are scheduled 8.00 - 9.30 a.m. and 10.00 - 11.30 a.m. Monday through Friday. All visa applicants must submit the electronic application form DS-156 with a bar-code. To apply for a visa and to schedule a visa appointment, you should follow the three steps listed below:

Step 1: Make a Phone Call

To make an appointment call our infoline Monday through Friday between 7.00 am and 8.00pm.

The number is: 0 701 77 44 00
From cell phones: *740 94 00

The call costs 4.00 PLN plus 22%VAT (the price is subject to change without notice). The number is available only within Poland but not from public phones. Before making a call please have a pen and paper ready to write down the date and time of your interview.

The infoline provides you with information on the types of nonimmigrant visas that are available and directs you to the correct category of visa for your intended travel. It also gives information regarding recommended documents and information you may be asked to provide during the interview with a consular officer. You then set the date and time of your interview at the consular section at either the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw or the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow, depending on where you live. Please note: this infoline is the only means to make an appointment for an interview. No information is given or appointments made by telephone at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw or the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow.

Step 2: Come to the Consular Section

Please come to your scheduled appointment in your region’s consular section with the documents described in "Basic documents and photos". In most cases, the consular officer will make a decision on your eligibility for a nonimmigrant visa at the time of the interview. In a few cases, you may be requested to return with additional documents before a decision can be made. In these rare cases, no appointment will be necessary for you to gain access to the consular section and present the additional documents.

Visa Applicants who are interviewed at the US Embassy in Warsaw, Piekna 12 str., may spend up to several hours waiting outside and inside before speaking with the consular officer. US Embassy employees will help applicants in line to enter the Embassy, however the US Embassy has no affiliation with individuals attempting to sell services or products to applicants waiting in line and these individuals often do so without license or registration.

Please do not bring cameras, weapons, knives or mace, or any kind of electronic equipment, e.g. mobile phones, digital cameras, video cameras, walkmans, discmans, laptops, etc.

Step 3: All applicants aged 14 to 79, inclusive, will be required to submit fingerscans at the time of their visa interview. The applicant will simply be required to place his or her index fingers on an electronic scanner in a procedure that is completely inkless and adds only a few seconds to the processing time for the visa.

Step 4: Find Out About Your Visa Application

Once the consular officer has reached a decision on your visa application, one of the two following actions occurs:

A) You will qualify for a visa and your passport will be sent directly to your home by DHL. It takes between 5-10 business days for visas to be processed and delivered through DHL Courier service. Visas can be issued on the same or next day only for medical or family emergencies.
Please notice that a possession of a visa in a passport does not entitle the bearer to enter the United States upon arrival at port of entry if he or she is found inadmissible by an immigration officer. Polish citizens having trouble while entering the USA have the right to request contact the Embassy of Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C., tel: (202) 234-3800, or Polish Consulate General in NYC, tel: (212) 686-1541, Chicago, tel: (312) 337-8166 or Los Angeles, tel: (310) 442-85-00.

-OR-

B) You will not qualify, and you will receive a letter that explains the reason for your ineligibility for a visa and your passport will be returned. You may always re-apply for a visa at a later date. However, it is recommended that ineligible applicants wait at least one year following a decision of ineligibility before re-applying and thoroughly reconsider their chances of obtaining a visa as each application requires a non-refundable application fee
