The U.S. Embassy in Warsaw is seeking an individual for the position of a Temporary Information Assistant in the Press Office of the Public Affairs Section. BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION Jobholder reports to the Information Officer (IO) and serves as the Assistant Information Officer (AIO) responsible for assisting in the coordination of post’s media, internet and informational activities. As the deputy to the Information Officer, the jobholder oversees the demanding daily job of updating the embassy website, ensuring that there is always fresh and informative content for our audiences. The jobholder is responsible for maintaining a special page on the website devoted to missile defense issues, posting current articles, graphics and text comprehensive to non-experts to clarity the technical details of missile defense to a general audience. The AIO drafts and edits the Ambassador’s monthly electronic newsletter that is sent electronically to more that 5,000 (and counting!) Polish and American audience contacts. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED NOTE: All applicants are instructed to address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. 1. Education: At least of two years of University education in English, literature, journalism, public relations, communications or other field with a significant writing component is required. 2. Prior Work Experience: At least three years of office work experience, including producing written products on tight deadlines or working with graphic design and websites is required. 3. Language Proficiency: Level 4 (fluent) speaking/reading/writing English is required. 5. Skills and Abilities: Excellent English language writing and editing skills are required. (The interview process will include a writing exercise to test proficiency). Ability to be resourceful and creative with excellent interpersonal skills in coordinating website content from various Mission sections and editing them for consistent style and accuracy is required. Ability to work on deadlines is required. SELECTION PROCESS When equally qualified, Appointment Eligible Family Members (AEFM) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required above qualifications in the application. Candidates for employment are normally hired at the first step. In some instances, candidates may be appointed at a higher step when exceptional qualifications or previous U.S. Government service so warrant. In such a case, the Human Resources Officer will determine the salary. Ordinarily Resident (OR): A citizen of the host country or a citizen of another country who has shifted the main residency focus to the host country and has the required work and/or residency permits for employment in country. Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): Typically NORs are AEFMs and EFMs of FS, GS, and Uniformed Service members who are eligible for employment under an American USG pay plan, on the travel orders and under Chief of Mission authority, or other personnel having diplomatic privileges and immunities.
