President Bush Congratulates Polish President-elect Lech Kaczynski

President Bush telephoned Polish President-elect Lech Kaczynski October 24 to congratulate him on his victory in the second round of the Polish Presidential election. President Bush emphasized that Poland is a close strategic partner of the United States. The President and President-elect Kaczynski agreed that the U.S.-Polish alliance is vital, and both underlined their commitment to continuing and strengthening our excellent bilateral relations. President Bush recalled his two previous visits to Poland and stressed that he looked forward to working closely with President-elect Kaczynski.

Ambassador Victor Ashe also congratulated all of the Presidential candidates and the Polish public on another successful democratic election. As a former mayor himself, Ambassador Ashe notes that President-elect KaczyƄski will bring his experience of local government to the national level.
