To commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the Polish-American Enterprise Fund and the fifth anniversary of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation, the two institutions held a conference May 20 in Warsaw to discuss their contributions to social-economic transformation in Poland.
At the conference, Ambassador Victor Ashe read a letter from President Bush praising the Enterprise Fund’s injection of over $1.2 billion dollars into the Polish economy through direct equity investments, home mortgages and consumer financing.
Among others attending the conference were former President of Poland Lech Wałęsa, Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Cimosiewicz, former U.S. National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzeziński, former U.S. Ambassador to Poland Nicholas Rey, and representatives of the Enterprise Funds from nine countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
The U.S. Congress established the Polish-American Enterprise Fund at the initiative of President George H.W. Bush.
This institution played a significant role in the transformation of Poland’s economy. The Fund used its earnings to establish the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.
