Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, announced that the Polish Humanitarian Organization, one of the foremost relief organizations in Poland, will contribute $12,752 to hurricane victims in Louisiana. In a brief meeting with the Ambassador, Janina Ochojska, President of the Polish Humanitarian Organization, said that the funds will help rebuild a school in Cameron Parish, located in southwest Louisiana which was seriously impacted by Hurricane Rita. Prior to the hurricane, it was a very successful system of six schools that served almost 2,000 students. Post-hurricane, only two school sites are viable, with a third possibly re-opening in the late spring. Cameron Parish will need to rebuild three schools as a result of Rita's devastation. The Polish Humanitarian Organization collected this money through a jazz concert in Krakow, Poland and through soliciting companies of US origin present in Poland. A letter sent by Ambassador Ashe thanking the Polish Humanitarian Organization for being the first organization to offer assistance to the Embassy when the scope of the damage inflicted on New Orleans revealed a tragedy of unprecedented proportions was effectively used to encourage companies to contribute to the relief fund.
