Amb. Victor Ashe receives “Friend of Trzcianna” award

Ambassador Victor Ashe visited the Podlaskie Region on March 1-2. In Bialystok, which is a Sister City of Milwaukee, he discussed the political and economic situation in the Podlaskie Region with Wojewoda Marek Strzalinski and Mayor of Bialystok Ryszard Tur.
Recognizing the important role religion plays in Polish society, the Ambassador met with Roman Catholic Archbishop Wojciech Ziemba and Orthodox Bishop Jakub.
He also accepted an award as a “Friend of the Trzcianna Township” from Trzcianna Wojt Zdzislaw Dabrowski.
Aware of Bialystok’s growing importance as an academic center, the Ambassador gave a lecture on his career in public service at the Higher School of Public Administration to over 250 students.
Following a lively discussion on issues ranging from the Kyoto Protocol to U.S. visa policy, the Ambassador met with the school’s rector, Barbara Kudrycka.
He also met with the Rector of the Bialystok Medical Academy Jan Gorski and Rector of Bialystok University Marek Gebczynski.
On March 2, Amb. Ashe met with Mayor of Lomza Jerzy Brzezinski and Mayor of Ostroleka Ryszard Zaluska. Among matters discussed were investment climate and Lomza’s Sister City relationship with Muscatine, Iowa.
