Colonel Michael J. Posvar, US Air Force, the US Air Attaché in Warsaw, was awarded the US Legion of Merit and the Polish Order of Icarus at a retirement ceremony April 21 held at the Polish Air Force Headquarters in Warsaw. COL Henry Nowak, US Army, the US Defense Attaché, presented the Legion of Merit and Major General Zbigniew Bielewiec, Head of Training, Polish Air Force, presented the Order of Icarus on behalf of the Commander of the Polish Air Force, Lt. Gen Stanislaw Targosz. Many of Col. Posvar’s colleagues from the Polish Air Force and the foreign attaché corps attended the ceremony.
Col. Posvar served in the US Air Force for over 29 years. He is a pilot, having flown all versions of the F-111 fighter/bomber. He and his wife, Patricia, have served in Warsaw since May 2003 and are the parents of two adult sons, Brandon and Jeremy. Col. Posvar officially retires in September.
