Iraqi-in-Exile to Speak in Warsaw. Bakhtiar Amin Offers Kurdish Perspective on Saddam's War Crimes

7 April 2003

The U.S. Embassy in Warsaw is pleased to welcome Bakhtiar Amin, an Iraqi-in-exile and head of the International Alliance for Justice, which is calling for an investigation into the genocide and war crimes of Saddam Hussein's regime. Mr. Amin, a Kurd now living in Paris as a Swedish citizen, highlights the atrocities, noting that, in the 35 years of Saddam's rule, there have been 282 gas attacks against the Kurds, during which a quarter-million people were killed or injured. He notes that the United Nations has not devoted one hour to this issue.

In addition to speaking about the horrors of life under Saddam, Mr. Amin is able to address the political and economic context for the conflict with Iraq. He can also speculate on the future of Iraq. Media are welcome to speak with him.
