Poland Chooses the F-16 "Fighting Falcon"

27 December 2002

The U.S. Embassy welcomes Poland's decision to purchase forty-eight F-16 multirole fighters. By selecting the Advanced F-16 C/D Block 52 version of the F-16, Poland ensures its air forces will be equipped with the most capable multirole fighter in NATO. Additional elements of the winning package include the most advanced U.S. weapons, training by the U.S. Air Force, long-term support of the aircraft and an outstanding economic offset, offering a blend of investment, transfer of the latest technology, exports, and marketing assistance for Polish products. The United States Government will also provide a low rate interest loan to help the Polish Government finance the purchase.

The choice of the combat proven U.S. plane will further enhance the already excellent cooperation between Poland and the U.S. "It represents more than an airplane. It is a fundamental choice about strategic political and military relationships," says U.S Ambassador Christopher Hill.

Poland has chosen cutting-edge technology and a close working relationship with the world's most powerful Air Force. The choice will define Polish national security for the next generation, and significantly strengthen the strategic political and military relations between our two countries. Flying the same aircraft means extensive cooperation between the U.S. and Polish Air Forces and their pilots: training together, sharing common tactics and doctrine, and working together in coalitions.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Polish authorities on their well run, transparent and fair tender process. It was a tough competition, but we are convinced it has produced the best outcome for Poland.
