Wagony Swidnica held a ceremony in Swidnica to deliver the first of 240 flatbed rail cars to the Iraqi Republic Railways Company (IRR) under a contract Swidnica won in June, 2004 funded by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq.
At the February 15 ceremony, Wagony Swidnica President Herbert Mauder conducted a tour of the facility for IRR’s Deputy Director General Aladdin Sadiq Al-Khanak and Chief Mechanical Engineer Muthanna Nadhim, where they saw several of their cars being assembled.
These new rail cars will significantly upgrade the Iraqi Railroad’s ability to transport goods across Iraq, including improving the ability to handle containerized imports and exports.
Wagony Swidnica will complete delivery of these cars over the next several months.
This contract represents one of Poland’s largest civilian Iraqi reconstruction export projects.
Wagony Swidnica is majority owned by Greenbrier, a U.S. company which invested in Poland in 1997.
