As part of a very successful Sister City partnership, a delegation from Seattle visited Gdynia May 21-24.

The delegation, headed by City of Seattle Councilmember Jean Godden and President of the Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association Glen Lee, included representatives from Seattle City Government and the Association.

Also taking part were business executives from the Port of Seattle, Boeing Corporation, Seattle Trade Development Alliance, and the AFL-CIO.

On May 22 Mayor of Gdynia Wojciech Szczurek and Councilmember Godden unveiled a bronze sculpture of Coho salmon on Gdynia’s popular seaside boulevard.

The sculpture entitled Coming Home, by Seattle artist Louise McDowell, is a gift to the city of Gdynia from the people of Seattle. [more about the artist and her sculpture]

Ms. McDowell’s grandfather and father were from Gdynia.
