This month, US Mission Poland is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the “Solidarity” movement with the Government of Poland and the Polish people. With the end of the strike which began in the shipyards of GdaĆsk, the workers had won the right to an independent trade union. Quickly, the union grew to include millions of members, and in 1989, it was again Solidarity that would bring on the fall of the oppressive Communist government. This month we celebrate the beginning of a movement, when workers determined to fight for a free Poland started a chain of events that would bring down Communism all over Eastern and Central Europe
