Presidential Delegation Arrives for Uprising Commemoration

The delegation representing President Bush arrived Friday to participate in the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The group includes U.S. Ambassador-designate to Poland Victor Ashe, Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago (Warsaw's sister city), Archbishop of Detroit Adam Cardinal Maida, Ronald Lauder Chairman of Clinique, former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Edward Derwinski, and Chester Partyka of the Polish American Congress of Ohio.

Secretary of State Colin Powell arrives Saturday night to lead the delegation. On Sunday, he meets with President Kwasniewski, Prime Minister Belka and Foreign Minister Cimoszewicz. On the agenda are various bilateral and international security issues.

Sec. Powell will also lay a wreath at the Cemetery of the Warsaw Uprising Insurgents and deliver a speech at a concert scheduled for Sunday evening.
