State Department Expert to discuss Uzbekistan
Live Online June 8

On May 13, government soldiers in Uzbekistan opened fire on thousands of protestors in the eastern Uzbekistan city of Andijan. These actions raised deep concerns in the United States and around the world about the direction in which Uzbekistan is headed.

Kent Logsdon, deputy director of the U.S. State Department's Office of Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, will participate in a moderated Internet chat on June 8 at 15:00 to discuss U.S. policy towards Uzbekistan, the situation in Andijan, human rights and a number of other topics related to the region.

Logsdon joined the Foreign Service in June 1987 and has been posted to Bangkok, Thailand; Almaty, Kazakhstan; Islamabad, Pakistan; and Stuttgart, Germany. Most recently he served as the special assistant to the assistant secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs. Logsdon also has worked in the State Department's Office of European Political-Military Affairs and the Operations Center.
